Which BuildASoil soil is right for me?Updated an hour ago

Both are real living soil. The difference is how much fuel is already in the bag. Choose Light Recipe for seedlings, clones, autoflowers and most veggies. Choose 3.0 for flowering plants, heavy feeders, and a water-only grow with the least fuss.

Light Recipe (green bag)

  • Balanced, moderate nutrient level
  • Gentle enough for seedlings and sensitive plants, and will not stunt an autoflower
  • Good for most vegetables and herbs
  • A good base if you like to add your own inputs as you go. Top dress with Craft Blend for bigger plants.

3.0 Recipe (orange bag)

  • Our best seller, loaded with amendments and compost
  • Built for flowering and heavy feeders like tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers
  • Water-only for most of the run
  • Short veg, then flip to flower, or transplant into it at the flip

Can't decide?

Many growers run both: start in Light Recipe through veg, then transplant into 3.0 at the flip to flower. If you are only buying one bag and growing something hungry, take the 3.0.

Either soil can be re-amended and reused round after round.

See the full side-by-side comparison on our soil comparisons page, and use the soil volume calculator to see how many bags you need.
